We're Growing....

Early this spring we had a bunch of foggy days. A bunch. A rarity for us, let me tell ya. Well, it goes without saying we had the wettest summer we've ever had. We border on arid, I think, where I live in Southern Alberta. Not this summer. It's the end of August and things are still GREEN! Unheard of. It has been SO MUCH fun to garden this year. I had a horrid tragedy this summer and lost 11 lambs and 2 ewes to a train. (My north pasture runs parallel with the train line - within 10 feet - and they got through the tiniest of holes like only sheep can do...) A couple weeks later, while in my care, I watched a friends' dog kill another one of their littler dogs despite all I tried to get it to quit. I walked around in a daze of traumatized grief I think, to be honest, for at least a month. My garden anchored me.It's hard to see in a little picture, but if you click on it, you can see my cool Red Runner Bean TeePee and my enormous row of sunflowers in the background.

I didn't get a close picture but along the entire south side of my garden I've planted only herbs. I spent hours upon hours studying about different herbs - medicinal and cooking herbs. I am really excited about how well they've turned out for me this year.
What's really neat is if you click here you can see how my garden began this year...

Oh Heather, how awful to have to go through both of those tragedies in one summer! I've always been paranoid of property too close to train tracks because of having horses. I hope your friends were understanding and you didn't have trauma to the friendship as well. So glad you had your garden to help.

Oh my Heather. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your little sheep and ewes along with the trauma of the dog fight. Bless your heart.

Your garden is simply AMAZING and I can see how much work you've put into it. BTW, LOVE the new look on your blog. So serene and pretty!

That is awful, the sheep being killed.
Thanks for stopping by, yes I'm near Vancouver B.C.
We were in Calgary a month ago, and I certainly thought Alberta was greener than I had expected:)
Great looking garden, I'll have a closer look later tonight.
