What are you reading?

I love love love to read. It was a wonderful gift my mum gave me - the love of reading. My grade one teacher also really fostered this gift. I still remember bringing home my first book and for all the praise I got for each book read. I remember getting a prize for the most books read in our grade. My high school English teacher was fabulous, too. She taught me to appreciate the talent of a truly gifted author. Marilynne Robinson is one of those authors. I like all sorts of books - what my friend and I call, "Fluff", and then books like, Robinson's Housekeeping. It is definitely not fluff. No skimming or skipping. Her sentences are works of art. Truly.

Another book I've just finished that is absolutely fabulous, is Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. I think I liked it even more, just because I didn't have to work so hard at it. The story line really propelled me. The quality is there, too. Give it a go, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's been adopted into my "top 10".
What are you reading right now? What are some of your favourites? I love Shelfari.com - see the shelf I've got on the right side, bottom, of the screen. You can put books you've read on a shelf and you can browse what others are reading. I have found so many good books this way. I browse through Shelfari on one screen and then on another I've got my local library so I can order the books. It's great.

I love to read too Heather, and read usually every single day, esp. since I got my Kindle. My taste in books runs the gambit. For fluff, I enjoy Victorian era books, but like modern stories by Nora Robers and Sandra Brown as well. I adored the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I love how the stories transport me into another time and life. I can't imagine NOT reading! I'll have to check out the ones you've recommended.
