Lambing 2010!

Well, lambing 2010 has finally begun. With perfect timing, I might add. I've been away for a week babysitting my brother's four kids. Oy busy. I knew my ewes were close to lambing, so we drove out to my place 2x a day to check on them, and thankfully didn't have any lambs. 3 of the 4 kids had the flu last week, so I just didn't have time for lambs, too. God's timing is always perfect. This morning I went out and discovered Barbara, my hair-bellied sheep, had triplets. No surprise - she was as big as a house. For all you spinners that are cringing at my mention of 'hair'.... Barbara is special. So she stays. Well, er, stayed. I think this is Barbara's last season with me. She has a lovely big udder, but only one side is working. She had triplets last year, and raised two of them very well and I had no reason to check her udder. But, alas, she can only raise 1 this year. Which brings me to more of God's perfect timing - Cheryl - my Cheviot had two huge twins. And a huge bag full of milk, but they could only drink out of one side, as the other side was too big. It had to be milked out. Yay! Collostrum for Barbara's orphans. Perfect. AND it's a nice sunny day today. It's been warm for like a month!!! And warmer weather is coming!!! Come on you lambs, come on!
Barbara and two of the triplets - she is VERY protective and wants to bunt me into next week. Instead she bunted her grain bucket.
Cheryl and her lovely twins - a ram and a ewe
Barbara's adorable little ram. His daddy is Obama - my New Hampshire
Barbara's smallest ewe. She's so cute and wrinkly - lost of room to grow! She needed a bit of warming up and some collostrum but is now back with her mummy. I'm feeding her and her sister with a bottle, but keeping them with their mummy.

Congrats! I shouldn't argue with God's timing, but I really would have liked to have had some lambs of my own by now....
