Have you heard of geocaching? It is the absoluteliest funnest thing. It's like an adventure-hobby. I copied some stuff from their webpage to tell you about it:
"Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment."
My best friend and I have started this adventure they call geocaching. I really really like it. Really really. I like how it takes you to places you have never been and you see things you never would have seen - and often it is in an area you've been to a million times! This past weekend we went to a farmers market that is a couple hours from here, closer to the mountains and the views were so perfect. The day was warm (a rarity lately) and the leaves were changing and we were driving by fields of cattle and crops and hay and mini evergreen forests dotted with the changing leaf birches and poplars... it was beautiful. For a special treat we met my aunt and uncle and then went to a small trendy mountain town for home-made ice cream. And geocaching. The one spot we found a geocache over looked a bit of a valley with trees that were changing colour and in the near-distance you could see the peaks of 81 mountains. We learned some neat history, too. That's another thing about geocaching - you learn really neat things.
Last night my friend and I went out and found a few caches that are just 15min from where I live and I saw more things/places I never have. It is so cool that way. If you can, you need to try it.

Oh, our family just discovered this fun activity this past summer! They are EVERYWHERE! We found some within walking distance from our home in west Lethbridge ... our only query is if we should actually take the item in the cache and then if we do - what we should REPLACE it with?

Yeah, like I need another obsession! ha!
It would so much fun for your boys :o) - husband and son. Think of it as a school lesson.
But it would require a GPS, which we do not own! (Yes, it's true; some of us manage to get around without one. :-)
