Looking For Spring

Today is the Official First Day of Spring! I went out for a walk to see if the crocuses were up in the coulee, but alas, not yet. But the snow is melting and the water is running! The dugout is filling up! I just need to shore up the east end of that dugout so I can hold MORE water this year. Last year's drought was frustrating, to say the least.

The signs of Spring, for me are:
  • The geese are flying north
  • The gophers are out (notice all the road kill!!)
  • It stays light later - woohooo! I can do my chores in the daylight!
  • The sparrows get noisy and quarrelsome
  • The meadowlarks come home
  • Robins!
  • crocuses
  • green grass in the pasture - the sheep are so happy about that!
  • I can begin to get busy on the plans/dreams and schemes of the winter!
So far I haven't seen any robins, or meadowlarks - or mourning doves, I forgot about those annoying, but pretty birds. I remember mum and I always 'competing' for who saw the first robin. I've found myself missing her a lot this spring. She always liked to hear of all my 'goings' on here on the farm. I wonder what Springs are like in Heaven?

What a beautiful post, Heather. Reading about you and your mum competing to see the first robin, I think I realized one reason I love birds so much! I have a hazy memory of my mother (who died when I was five years old) pointing out some birds flying in the sky.

By the way, if you want to see some gorgeous bird photographs, check out "Journey Through Grace". The link is now on my blog. :)

Heather, I would love to hear more about your dugout...would you care to write more about it in another post some time?

It just sounds interesting...
